Sun Microsystems is not a dinosaur

October 13th, 2007 by Ivan Petrichenko

I posted a permalnik to my previous blog entry to Kevin Chu’s blog.
He is one of those guys who really contribute much to the technical glory of SUN. Plus he likes Star Wars and Led Zeppelin (same here) so he is definitely a ‘good guy’ :)
Next morning I was impressed by the fast reaction from SUN people. Here is the answer:

Ivan,

The broken link has been fixed. It was actually a back-end server
problem and not directly related to Firefox.

As for the MySpace page, Sun is actively developing communities in as
many places as possible. There’s lots of new technology out there and
some of it has value and some of it doesn’t. Experimenting with
something new is not bad as long as we don’t cut off the “legacy
support” for our existing customer and community base. The MySpace page
is not intended to replace any existing developer network asset. It’s
just another conduit into the network.

Thanks for giving us a chance to respond!

After that I checked links with Firefox - now they are OK and I was able to download several interesting books excerpts.

Now I’m not worried about my future tightly connected with future of SUN and their technologies. They showed a good reaction time. It’s pleasure for me to know that they are not a ’slow dinosaur’ like many other corporations.

So, let’s go to MySpace. Maybe Sun presence can change the face of this service and people will say: “Oh, the MySpace is just a boring nerd community”.
:)

Happy SUN fan
