Why the future… Sun does not need me
Why the future SUN does not need me
I am a very loyal customer of SUN Microsystems. I’m composing this post on my SUN Ray thin client. I have more than 10 years of Java development experience. My latest project is Java EE 5 application running on Glassfish application server.
I always considered SUN to be the source of advanced technologies. This company was never afraid of being “too smart”. They always let their customer enjoy the most complex and powerful technologies from hardware and software worlds. This company never followed “buzzwords”. Instead they were creating “buzzwords” for the last 20 years.
People like me felt the advantage of using products from SUN that were not “for masses”.
And after that all I received a “PR letter” from SUN. Below are some quotes from this piece of shame:
from: Sun Microsystems <sun.microsystems@mail.communications.sun.com>

I beleive MySpace is a big garbage collector. 90% of
MySpace users are kids and infantile people. The only reason to become
a MySpace user is the lack of elementary technical skills required to register at
any free blog hosting. The average MySpace page is the nightmare of a
teenager psychology expert.
I just went to MySpace and followed a random link from the “cool new people” section. Just take a look at this
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=202594438
Is it a descent place for one of the IT industry leaders to communicate with IT engineers ???? Maybe SUN is going to convince this girl Sarah and his friends to buy Sun Fire server ?
It’s a real shame for such a solid company. I think it’s a sign of some kind of identity crisis inside the SUN.
And the last detail that added insult to injury. I tried to follow another link from the same letter and went to
http://developers.sun.com/offers/
I pressed the ‘SDN Member Login’ button. All I got was just an ugly message on the blank page:

Here is my user-agent line:

So, Firefox is not good enough to browse sun.com now? Maybe they started hiring engineers at MySpace.com? That could explain everything.
